Kathryn Baczewski

Karen is a licenced landscape architect with a Masters Degree in Landscape Architecture. She studied in Italy while working on her Masters degree and fell in love with gardens that could survive beautifully for centuries. This inspired her to blend high design and low maintenance for time enduring projects with a northern climate spin.

what exactly does a landscape architect do?

We are designers....but also do a great deal of 'engineering'. Your typical landscape architect must be fluent in site engineering for grading projects and stormwater management. A landscape architect must be able to think in three dimensions to design landscapes that work as beautifully as they look. It isn't just plant and soil knowledge in a landscape architect's skill set.....a landscape architect must know a great deal about a wide variety of materials and construction techniques in order to design and plan projects including a working knowledge of concrete, metal, stone and wood.

We are landscape architects, designers and drafters. We are not landscape contractors. There are many fine landscape contractors in our area. We encourage you to get to know several contractors and decide which installation professional is the best fit for you and your project.
